How come people don't use teamspeak anymore?
What are the primary reasons that people use Ventrilo instead of teamspeak, and is there a way I can connect to a ventrilo server using teamspeak?

Ventrilo has better sound quality and you should download Ventrilo to connect to Ventrilo servers.

teamspeak never comes through clearly and its always terribly laggy and just overall unreliable
ventrilo has none of those problems, crisp quality and fast voice response i guess you would call it.
and more people use vent anyway over TS so naturally more people go to vent than ts for that reason

Both Ventrillo and Teamspeak support a range of sound codecs, you can pick whichever codec you want based on the tradeoff you want between sound quality and bandwidth usage.
How does OP know TS isn't used anymore? Most people I know use TS over Vent. Our clan uses TS. No real reason except its what we use, does the job and anyone can run their own server so no need to rely on a public server. Vent can do all this too.
Possibly Vent is more recently developed, with a few features like sound surround, but nothing really significant.

I just got on TS this weekend and haven't heard or tried of Ventrilo. I guess I'll have to look into it. I'm suprised I haven't used either one earlier.

I actually don't know, just when I see people advertising guilds they mention vent more then TS (my own observations). Vent isn't porting their client to Liunx or they're going for fashionably late. The title of my thread was poorly chosen

Our guild uses TS so that's the only one I know. I've downloaded Vent so that I could pug more in HA, but have not been able to get it working and since our guild doesn't have a vent server I have no server that I can test with.
I tried pugging once. They gave me the vent address and I connected but sound quality was horrible and my mic didn't work at all. I'm sure it was a setting issue on my end, but the pug kicked me off the server and team rather than help. Kinda hard to work out the kinks without a server.

Our clan has been using TS for almost 3 yrs now.
And whoever said the sound quality is crap should maybe read up on the manuals on how 2 properly config it?
We also chat 2 various other GW guilds we met through the game and I can tell you, it doesn't matter if I'm chatting to 12 guys from Australia or 24 guys from America, I have a clear & crisp line. So do they.

When I played a Few FPSers it was TS all the way
With GW it's always been Vent.
I prefer TS, it's simpler and VERY easy to find a free public channel for.
Vent however is more "customizable" you can adjust the volume of each individual person in the channel which I find VERY helpfull.
My previous sound card did not like Vent and people could not hear me well on the other end where as TS I could run voice activated perfectly and clean and clear onthe other end, I have a new sound card but I still can not get the vent set up right for voice activation, my mic is either stuck open, or I have to yell.
As far as Server side, vent is also more customizable and provides easier access to important info (logs, ip's, ect) then vent does allowing easier faster use by the host/moderator.
my two cents

You probably need to adjust the voice sensitivity to make it much more sensitive. Its voice activated, or most people use it that way anyway, so if you have the sensitivity too low your mic doesn't pick up your talk at all. The default sensitivity setting wouldn't pick up a zepplin concert.

Ventrilo is much more simpler than TS. Also, I still think Ventrilo has better sounds quality than TS does.

vent has less problems(like the one that made my mic impossible to hear), isnt impossible to clearly hear when two people talk at the same time, and is easier to use(not to mention u can run your own server, for whoever posted that TS has that.)

TS lags like crazy, and just with GW, but with every other game i played (D2, BF1942,BF2,Cod,Cod:uo,Cod2,......) the list goes on. Vent, on the other hand, doesn't lag. The sound is always clear.

ventrillo convert
I have used Teamspeak a lot over the years never touched Ventrillo it seemed overly complicated.
Anyway recently TS has been letting us down, there where times when the sound cut out when the games caused a heavy load on the system.
Checked out ventrillo and found setting up a server on that was way easier than ts and the whole thing worked a lot smoother.
Its ventrillo for us from now on

I would like to see your statistics. Most people you know probably are in your clan, so of course they'll use TS.
I know at least 200 guilds that use vent, and about 5 that use TS. Those are my numbers, and they may be wrong, but it certainly surveys a lot more guilds than most claims.
Also, I think the average vent voice quality is higher than that of TS. Of course you can change it, but the standard vent server is more convenient and better quality than the standard TS one. It's like trying to compare something like Sony electronics with some no-name brand electronics. Of course some of the no-name brands will be better than Sony's, but as a whole, Sony will be better.
